Workation Wonders: How a Farmhouse Can Boost Your Productivity and Well-being.

Day 1 — 6:32 AM — Bangalore to Somewhere Green

I left my home very early in the morning, even before the sun had come up. The streets were quiet and most people were still asleep, but my mind was already filled with thoughts, stress and noise. I had lots of work pressure, due dates I had to meet, repeatedly back and forth with clients, and tasks that needed to be edited or fixed based on clients comments. In my job as a digital designer, I spend all day working with screens and tiny details. But recently, even my thoughts and emotions felt broken or blurry, just like a low quality image. I was feeling mentally and emotionally tired and unclear.

One day, my friend Isha told me about a farmhouse close to Bannerghatta (an area outside Bangalore) where she had gone for a “workation.”

A workation means when you work remotely while staying in a peaceful or vacation-like place. When I heard that she worked from a farmhouse, I thought it sounded funny or unrealistic. That is why I laughed because I wasn’t sure people could actually work from such places.

I replied to her saying that I had a lot of real work to do, and I didn't have time to relax or take a break. To me, going to a farmhouse felt more like taking a holiday, and I didn't understand how someone could stay in a vacation spot and still finish their work properly.

She just replied, “That’s exactly why you need it.”

I finally decided to say yes to going on a workation. I took my laptop and charger and all the stress I was feeling. I started the journey, even though I didn't fully believe it would work out.

Day 1 — 10:47 AM — Arrival at the Farmhouse

As soon as I arrived at the farmhouse, the first thing I felt was how calm and quiet everything was. There was no loud noise, no cars, no chaos, just peace all around. It felt very different from the busy city.

In Bangalore city, It is usually very noisy traffic, honking, people and construction. But here, it was peaceful and quiet. In the farmhouse the only sounds were natural: the rusting of all trees, the chirping of birds, and the soft blowing of wind. No traffic, no city noise, just calming nature sounds. The room was simple and peaceful. In my room there was a big TV, AC, with an attached wash room. There was no desk clutter, which means the work space was clean and tidy. The room had a large window, a neatly made bed, and a wooden chair that faced a pond outside a beautiful and calm view.

The place felt very natural and simple, and that made me feel calm and peaceful deep inside. I have been very busy and mentally tired for the past few months. In the farmhouse, I finally had quiet and peaceful moments without disturbance.

After arriving at the farmhouse, I quickly settled down and started working. In just 1 hr, I opened my laptop, connected to the web, and started answering emails. I also started organizing my tasks and schedule for the upcoming week.

At that moment, I noticed something changing inside me. It was not a change in how I felt and how I was thinking. It felt like my mood or mind set was becoming calmer and more focused. Usually, in the city or at home, I have too many ideas in my head and get distracted easily.

But here, my mind is clear. I could concentrate on one task at a time without my attention jumping from one thing to another. Back in my regular routine, I keep looking at my phone very often, scrolling via social media or checking messages. But here at the farmhouse, I didn’t feel the need to do that. I was fully involved in my work.

This means I was fully in the moment. I wasn’t thinking about the past or worrying about what’s next. I was calm, focused, and mentally connected to what I was doing right now.

Maybe that’s the power of Workation Wonders: How a Farmhouse Can Boost Your Productivity and Well-being

Day 2 — 2:03 PM — The Work Feels Different Here

The internet speed at the farmhouse was much better than I expected. It gave me a download speed of about 90 megabits per second (Mbps), which is considered very good for video calls, uploading files, and streaming without delay. Sometimes, when I work from cafes in Koramangala, the internet there is not smooth. My Zoom calls often lag, freeze or get disconnected. Compared to that, the internet at the farmhouse was much more stable and better for work.

I had a meeting call with my clients to discuss the work I did for them, and it was successful. The client was happy with the work or gave good feedback. Even though the meeting was important, the part of the day that stayed in my mind the most was when I worked on a mood board outside in the backyard. That moment was more special than anything else that day. I placed my laptop, written notes, and small pieces of printed color samples on a stone bench. This bench was under a large tamarind tree, giving me shade and a calm place to work. It felt beautiful and meaningful in a surprising way. I was using technology to make art (on the laptop), but I was surrounded by nature—real trees, plants, and natural smells from the ground and leaves. That mix of digital work and real-world nature felt emotional, calm, and creative.

In just 4 hours at the farmhouse, I finished more work than I usually complete in a whole day when I'm working from my house or apartment. It wasn’t only about finishing more tasks. The quality of my work was also higher.

It must be the quiet environment, strong Wi-Fi, and beautiful surroundings for focused work that farmhouse rentals in Bangalore offer. This mix is so underrated.

Day 3 — 7:15 PM — A Bonfire & a Breakthrough

This evening, the person who takes care of the farmhouse arranged a small fire outdoors for warmth and relaxation. It is a common thing to do at night in the farmhouses to enjoy. I took my laptop and sat near the fire. I was also quietly looking at the flames, enjoying how they moved and glowed.

My attention was split between work and enjoying the peaceful moment. But once I started working near the fire, ideas came easily, and I got into a smooth rhythm. Everything just started to come together without stress. The quiet environment didn’t make me feel bored or lonely. Instead, it helped me focus and feel calm. The peaceful surroundings gave me a sense of support and clarity while working.

Later that evening, I had dinner with someone else who was also at the farmhouse. She was from Mumbai and worked as a copywriter (someone who writes content like ads, websites,). She was not there on vacation. Like me, she was doing a work-action.

  • While talking during dinner, we found it funny (and a little sad) how most people in cities are always stressed and overworked.

  • Many of them try different “productivity hacks” to manage stress — like using special apps, time-tracking tools, or reading self-help articles.

  • But these tricks often don’t really solve the root problem.

The real peace and calm people are searching for is not hidden or complicated. It is simply waiting in quiet places just outside the city, like this farmhouse. Instead of complicated life hacks, people could just come here and feel better.

Q: Do farmhouses actually help you work better or is it just hype?

No hype. The silence, greenery, and comfort reset your brain. You feel less cluttered and more in control of your tasks.

Q: How’s the internet and mobile network in remote farmhouses?

Most farmhouses now come with fiber or strong 4G. Mine had no interruptions. The trick is confirming speed with the host before booking.

Q: Is it lonely working alone in a farmhouse?

Not at all. It’s peaceful, not isolating. You’ll likely meet other workations too. And the quiet lets you reconnect with yourself.

Day 4 — 6:20 AM — Morning Without Alarms

I didn't use an alarm clock or phone reminder. My body felt fresh and ready to get up on its own. There were no pop up messages from my work calendar telling me I had meetings or tasks. It was a peaceful morning without any pressure. I didn't have any emails or messages with stressful subjects like ASAP. There was no one rushing me to do something quickly. I went outside to the sitting area (veranda) of the farmhouse, had a warm cup of tea, and calmly wrote my thoughts, feelings, or ideas in a notebook (journal). It was a slow, peaceful moment.

I launched a design software called Figma(Figma is a popular tool that designers use to create websites, mobile apps, and graphics.) on my laptop. I started creating the main page of a website for a company that focuses on health and well being. The colors I picked for the website design. I chose color by looking at the trees near me at the farmhouse.

I didn't need to watch Youtube videos, read articles, or listen to music made to help people work better. In the city, I used to depend on the tools to push myself to work. But at the farmhouse, I didn't need them. My mind was already calm and ready. Leaving my usual room and working in a peaceful farmhouse with nature around me made a big difference, I didn't have to change my job or my work just the location.

This is the special thing about working in a place like a farmhouse:

  • It’s quiet, so you can think clearly.

  • The Wi-Fi is strong, so your work doesn’t stop.

All of this makes working easier and more enjoyable.

I felt happy to open my laptop. I felt creative again.

It didn't feel like a boring job anymore. It felt exciting and meaningful.

Day 5 — 11:45 PM — Goodbye, For Now

I packed slowly today.

I still had many unread emails and pending messages. My work was not fully finished. There were still tasks I needed to complete. I had not done everything yet. Even though I had work left, I didn't feel stressed or tired. Mentally and emotionally, I felt relaxed and peaceful. My thoughts were clear. I knew what I needed to do, and my mind was not confused or messy like before. I felt peaceful and quiet inside. There was no rush, panic, or pressure. I didn’t expect it, but I actually felt happy to return to my usual work setup. I wanted to take this peaceful feeling (calm and focus) back with me, even after leaving the farmhouse.

At that moment, I clearly understood something I hadn’t noticed before. I thought I was only going on a short holiday to relax, but it was more than that. It helped me feel peaceful inside. It fixed the stress I was carrying.

If you are reading this blog and saying to yourself, I have too much work, I can't go out of the city, then you are probably the person who needs a break the most. People who are always busy often don't realize how tired they are inside. Being productive doesn't mean working for long hours.

Just sitting in front of a computer all day doesn’t mean you did good work. Productivity is really about how much mental and physical energy you have to focus, create, and solve problems. If your energy is low, your work quality goes down. And nothing helps increase your energy and focus better than being in a peaceful, calm place—like nature or a quiet farmhouse—where your mind can relax and think clearly.

I came to the farmhouse feeling tired and confused, but I’m leaving as a more focused and peaceful person, with a fresh mind and better ideas.

So yes, I believe in it now:
