Traditional Dussehra Celebration in Farmhouse Rentals in Bangalore.
Every dussehra, my family had a fixed pattern of celebrating the festival. They visited temples close to their home, performed a simple puja inside the house, and later met family members for a dinner gathering. These are normal activities that my family do to mark Dussehra. Although these celebrations were enjoyable, they didn't feel peaceful. Because they live in a busy city, There was constant traffic, loud noise, and the work pressure from the office. All of that made the festival feel hurried and less meaningful. This year my family wanted a change. They decided not to follow their usual city based routine. They were looking for a new, more relaxed, and meaningful way to celebrate Dussehra. So we planned a traditional Dussehra celebration in farmhouse rentals in Bangalore.
It was quick idea we had. My father said, Lets go to Bangalore and enjoy the festival in a quiet place. So we searched online and found a lovely farmhouse just outside the city. It had lots of trees, Fresh air, a big garden, and a nice house with plenty of rooms for all of us. We packed our clothes, things for puja, and sweets from our favourite shop, then started our trip.
A Warm Welcome to the Farmhouse
We arrived at the rented farmhouse one day before the Dussehra festival started. The climate was nice, not too hot or rainy, and it took about 8 hours by road to travel from hyderabad to the farmhouse in bangalore. The moment they walked into the farmhouse, they immediately felt peaceful and relaxed. The atmosphere was quiet and soothing compared to the busy city. The surroundings were natural and beautiful, the coconut trees moved softly because of the breeze, and there was a small water pond near.
The staff members at the farmhouse greeted us and showed us the farmhouse property, explaining where things were. The children were excited and ran off to explore the outdoor spaces like the garden and swimming pool. Meanwhile my mother chose a place inside the house where she could set up her festive Golu, a traditional arrangement of dolls during Dussehra. Later that day we sat on the verandah, enjoyed a tea, and appreciated the quiet and relaxed atmosphere, something they dont get to expereince often in the noisy city life.
On the first day of Navratri, people do special things to celebrate.
Golu is the festive display of dolls arranged during this Navratri. My mother brought the dolls from the home and arranged them in the farmhouse Puja room. This marks the beginning of the festival. This farmhouse had large enough space for setting up the Golu neatly. Which might not be possible in smaller houses. The kids actively took part by placing the dolls in the farmhouse and drawing Rangoli at the entrance. It made the festival more interactive and joyful for the younger generation. The whole family got involved in the preparations which felt special. Normally in daily city life everyone is busy with Schools, work. So it is rare to spend this quality time together. Later, we performed a small puja with turmeric water, haldi-kumkum, and offered sundal as prasad. Since it was a farmhouse stay for Dussehra in Bangalore, everything felt fresh and simple. The real outdoor place made the special actions feel more true.
Day 2 – Ayudha Puja and Traditional Cooking
The next morning we did a special puja called Ayudha pooja. A traditional south indian ritual done during dussehra where people worship tools, instruments and anything that helps in daily life of work. Before the puja it is mandatory to clean the items that we worship. We decorated the room with turmeric flowers and banana leaves.
Turmeric is a symbol of purity and protection.
Flowers represent beauty and devotion.
Banana leaves are widely used in rituals and signify freshness and prosperity.
Doing puja under the tree is often seen as good luck. My father took the lead in performing rituals which are commonly seen in Indian families. All family members actively participated in the rituals. After the puja my family joined together to prepare a grand meal, showing how food is an important part of festival celebrations in India. The kitchen was well-equipped with essentials for cooking like:
Gas stove for cooking,
Pots, pans, etc.
A grinder, which is used to grind spices and batter, adding an authentic touch to the experience.
My father and I made tamarind rice and vada, while my mother made kesari and sundal. Instead of plates we used banana leafs for eating, which is the traditional south indian style. The shade of trees kept us cool and comfortable while dining outside. The kids were surprised we could celebrate this way outside our home.
Day 3 – Games, Bonfire, and Bhajans
On the dussehra day my family went to the hanuman temple located near the farmhouse. After that they returned to the farmhouse to do the main puja. Everyone wore traditional clothes. The women wore silk sarees, and the men wore dhotis (a traditional Indian garment for men). Around the farmhouse they lit up small oil lamps. We added fun activities to the celebration especially for the kids, like lemon and spoon race and antakshari which is a song game. Other people who were staying at a nearby farmhouse joined us.
It became like a small festive gathering. After finishing the meal, we arrange the bonfire outside. We got permission from the farmhouse staff to do this for safety reasons. We ended the day peacefully and spiritually, enjoying the bhajans, togetherness by the fire. This farmhouse stay for Dussehra in Bangalore gave us everything we hoped for—quiet, joy, and a chance to connect as a family.
What Made This Dussehra Special?
When we think about it now, the smartest and most satisfying decision we made was to leave the busy city and go somewhere peaceful to enjoy the festival. Even though we were not at home, we still did our usual religious and cultural rituals. Nothing was left out. Children took part in the festival actively. They understood the religious customs, helped with setting up the decorations and even joined in the cooking. My parents were relaxed and happy. There was no traffic, loud sounds, or stress from city life. Only our family, a calm natural environment, was pure and simple. It didn't cost us too much money. We booked the farmhouse for 3 days at an affordable price. We didn't eat any food from outside, we cooked ourselves like in our home. We had enough space to perform any rituals which are difficult in small houses and apartments.
If you're planning a farmhouse stay for Dussehra in Bangalore, book early and choose one with a lawn, an open kitchen, and a comfortable indoor area. Carry your puja essentials, traditional clothes, and maybe even a speaker for bhajans.
Conclusion
Celebrating festivals in the middle of nature brings a different kind of joy. For us, this traditional Dussehra celebration in farmhouse rentals in Bangalore was not just a vacation but a spiritual and emotional experience. It brought our family closer and helped us create memories that will last forever.
